The SCI is working tirelessly to ensure it’s culture, strategy and policies all work hand-in-hand to achieve an environment for its employees where equality can thrive. In comparison to peer communities and organisations in our winner’s geography, their efforts stand out and set an example for others.

At sea, gender equality in particular is celebrated and encouraged with SCI employing the highest number of women seafarers in the country, taking on roles from Master to Cadet. And on shore, the workforce continues to improve its gender balance right through the ranks to the organisation’s Chairperson and Managing Director.

Their CSR policies look to redress imbalances locally in education, health care, women empowerment and the eradication of hunger and malnutrition in communities. The intrenchment of internal governance processes addressing workplace behaviour & attitudes, coupled with the creation of an Internal Complaints Committee, further demonstrate the SCI commitment and support the verdict of the Seatrade Editorial Board this year.
