The Mission to Seafarers

The Mission to Seafarers provides help and support to many of the 1.5 million men and women who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat. Piracy, shipwreck, abandonment and separation from loved ones are just a few of the problems merchant seafarers face.

We work in over 200 ports in 50 countries with 121 Seafarers’ Centres caring for seafarers of all ranks, nationalities and beliefs. Through our network of chaplains, staff and volunteers we offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to seafarers through ship visits, drop-in seafarers' centres and a range of welfare and emergency support services.

With our large global footprint, we are well placed to respond immediately to seafarers when they arrive in port. All our Chaplains are trained in post-traumatic stress counselling and can spot when all is not well with a seafarer.  The daily interactions of our Chaplains help resolve seafarers’ problems, which goes some way to contributing to safety at sea and improving mental well-being.
